Re: Dagger Board Jam Cleat

We've dropped our board a couple of times, on a couple of different boats. Never a problem, not even a minor jam. BTW I was talking with boat dealer who has sold more 7.9s than anybody outside the factory. Great guy and as honorable as the day is long. He used to race the boats a lot. Claimed that i...

Re: 2010 CCR Regatta

Hey John
I've spoken to a bunch of our guys over here in MN. I can't find anybody who will commit to Rochester. Sorry.
It's more than a thousand miles for us, 250 beyond Sarnia.
There's understandable support for Racine as a venue. But Rochester's just too far.

Re: 2009 Rules Changes Final Draft

This is, IMHO, about making the punishment fit the crime. I think that makes for better racing in this fleet. There isn't a political component here. Dave, if this were the Flying Scott or the Laser class I likely wouldn't support the change. Cripes you can rip off a 720 in a FS like a Ducati on an ...

Re: 2009 Rules Changes Final Draft

It's fine to disagree guys, especially in the respectful manner which (I believe) is a hallmark of this class. I certainly respect your opinion, and understand the very reasonable rationale which generates your POV. Just so that we're clear -- This proposal applies ONLY to class-sanctioned regattas ...

Re: 2009 Rules Changes Final Draft

Dave (and all) The reason I modified the proposal is in the interest of fairness and better sailing. If somebody fouls you, say by not turning up immediately prior to the start, they have potentially gained a lot. That , IMHO, is worth a two-turn penalty. Hence the change. Most of the fouls that wou...

Re: 2009 Rules Changes Final Draft

Here's why #1 was proposed last year in Nashville. I happen to agree, but it isn't my proposal. The rationale is this: It encourages people to deal with a foul on the water. When the penalty is a 720, competitors choose too often (IMHO) to take it to the room. They say, what the heck, our race is to...

Re: Displacement / weight question

It all depends on exactly how the local PHRF regs are written. If they require you to sail in class specs, then any 7.9 sailing as an OB would be required to sail at 4600lbs. The IBs would be required to sail at 4400lbs. If they don't require class specs, then you're quite right a converted IB might...

Re: Displacement / weight question

That, sadly, is very much up to your local PHRF board. The following answers are (all) possibilities: - Something unknown - Something insignificant - Something significant - Nothing at all Maybe the above is a bit biased. However, it is none-the-less true. As I've said before "All PHRF is local PHRF...
