Re: How fast

We've had ours over 8kts but only for a few seconds at a time, surfing down the front of waves. Where we sail (Sandusky Bay, Ohio), we could not match your speed because with that much wind we would have big chop and/or waves. As an old fart I no longer willingly sail upwind in that much air . . Enj...

Re: Advice on buying a 7.9

Hey Mr. Bart -

That should work - and is what I did.

Watch for an increase in step compression

FYI, I did the job myself for about $ 400 - a friend hired a pro for $ 3,000

Good luck

Re: Advice on buying a 7.9

Hey Bart -
lots of us have made that fix, if you search the repair thread (mast step repair) you'll find lots of info.
it does need to be addressed.

Re: Soft spot around mast

Frank -

That is a repair you should do, esp. if you want to sell the boat at some point.

Do a search for "mast step repair" on this thread . . This is what we did

Repairing Outhaul

Several of us have outhauls that work badly, or not at all.

Any tips for getting inside the boom to do the job?

Thanks in advance . . Sandusky Sailing Club

Re: Boat Lettering

Well, it depends what effect you want.

I used foot high lettering for the caps, it's very visible.

Re: Set up for single handling.

You are all officially invited to visit the Sandusky Sailing Club, drop your 7.9's in the water . . and take a shot at the Kelleys Island Challenge. (This year so far, the top times have been turned in by a Tartan 10 (single handed), and a Lindenberg 26 (crewed). Previously, 7.9's had dominated.) ht...

Re: Set up for single handling.

I single hand my 7.9 all the time - much more than I race.

Great fun !! I often sail with a No. 3 head sail - easier, and you really don't lose much speed - see photo !!

Re: Mast Step Repair

Hey Mookster - Short answer is yes, in fact we used solid glass with chopped strand, sort of like "mini re-bar." The repair is not difficult - easier than doling the deck area under the cockpit winches or stanchions. There is a trick to deal with the point loading on the base plate. And another tric...

Re: Daggerboard Seam and Delam Repair

I would say that epoxy will stick to the blue stuff, but don't quote me.

Clamp the hell out of it. If it winds up just a little bit too fat, you have an issue.

When you are done, the whole board should be sealed (including the top); otherwise
you'll just get water in there again.

Re: Bulkhead Replacment

Do the starboard chain plate area while you have that area open.

Pretty easily done from below, since that is where you are working.

Re: cabin sole

And another trick, which you likely know, but in case not . .

With the boat on the hard, pour water into the bilge, and watch where it comes out.
