S2 7.9 named ILYA Jam boat of the year - 2019

"Mystery Dance", an S2 7.9 from the Sandusky Sailing Club sailed by Peter Huston and his intrepid crew has been named ILYA JAM Boat of the Year, mostly on the strength of their JAM over-all victories in the ILYA Bay Week Regatta, and the Sandusky Sailing Club's Islands Race

Re: Mast Shoe Help

Yup, the drill/tap thing is what I did too.
Worked well.

I've noticed that a number of 7.9 masts have shoes that are
quite loose. They have been known to come loose and fall
in the drink. They you are really screwed.

Kids, don't let this happen to you !!

Re: Outboard Motor Suggestions in 2020

And here is an outboard mod I am considering . . . to make docking less adventurous.

I like the way this on flips out of the way - we need that for tilting the motor up while under sail, right?

Comments welcome.

Re: Outboard Motor Suggestions in 2020

An old trick to start that motor if it floods . .

Turn the throttle all the way up - all the way.

starts easily then

Re: Outboard Motor Suggestions in 2020

I think the motor you have picked out will work well for you. https://onlineoutboards.com/collections ... oard-motor I have the 6 hp Nissan version of it. Works well. Extra long shaft will help considerably You may have to fiddle with the motor mount so the prop does not drag in the water when you a...

Hey Pete - I'm no NorCal now, but will be back on the Sweetwater Seas in two weeks or so. Be glad to send you the photos of the Garhauer set-up installed. Did you see the photos above of the parts (uninstalled)? Hope our CIYC friends can sail over to Sandusky this summer. PAX, AJ Oliver

Re: Daggerboard Lift

Yeah Mr. Jim - Our method is similar, except that we use a stationary chain lift on a stout girder, raise the board up, then roll the boat out of the way. The big advantage of the chain lift is that one can raise the board very slowly and carefully as it comes up to the flange at the top of the trun...

Re: Daggerboard Lift

Stef -

I like the way you think . .

I'm now arranging to borrow a chain fall to lift the board, and will post photos of how I do it . .

Some of the contraptions I've seen used on this site look pretty scary . .

Thanks

Re: Daggerboard Lift

Hey Mr. Stef & Others - I've taken the board out several times in the past for fairing and repairs - and measured it against the Class template. The shape is good and measures in. And it has been stored indoors at above 40 degrees which should prevent any water in the board from freeze/thaw - pretty...
